How to fix a misplaced rating on a Product
Last updated:
AI Search Score flags an aggregateRating that’s been placed on a Product when it should be on your business entity (or when that product isn’t genuinely rated).
Why this matters
Ratings belong where they’re true. A business-wide rating sitting on an individual Product misrepresents what was actually rated, and engines are increasingly strict about rating schema that doesn’t match genuine, specific reviews. Misplaced ratings can be ignored or penalised.
How to fix it
- If the rating reflects your whole business, move
aggregateRatingto your canonical Organization/LocalBusiness entity (see the canonical-entity and rating-singular fixes). - If a specific product genuinely has its own reviews, an
aggregateRatingon that Product is fine — but only with real, product-specific review data. - Remove
aggregateRatingfrom Products that aren’t individually rated.
How to check it worked
Re-scan. “No misplaced rating on Product” should turn green. Confirm any remaining product ratings reflect genuine, product-specific reviews.
