How to structure content so AI can quote it

Last updated:

AI Search Score checks whether your content is structured in self-contained, extractable chunks — the format AI engines prefer to lift and cite.

Why this matters

Generative engines quote passages, not whole pages. Content built as clear, self-contained chunks — a heading that poses a question, followed by a direct answer — is far easier for them to extract and attribute than a long undifferentiated wall of text. Structuring for extractability is one of the most practical GEO levers.

How to fix it

  • Use descriptive headings that pose the question a reader (or engine) is asking.
  • Lead each section with a direct, standalone answer in the first sentence or two, then elaborate.
  • Keep paragraphs focused on one idea so a chunk makes sense lifted out of context.
  • Use lists and clear structure where they genuinely aid clarity.
  • Avoid burying the answer at the end of a long meander — front-load it.

How to check it worked

Re-scan. “Content is extractable in self-contained chunks” should turn green. As a gut-check: could a single section of your page stand alone as a quoted answer? If yes, you’re there.
