Brand & entity signals for AI search

Last updated:

Updated: we’ve expanded this into a full brand presence hub. For identity specifically, see entity resolution & identity; for reviews, see review & reputation health.

AI search engines do not just read a single page — they try to work out who you are as a business and whether you can be trusted. A consistent, active brand presence is one of the signals they lean on when deciding whether to cite you. This guide explains what those brand and entity signals are and how to strengthen them.

Why this matters

When an AI engine encounters your business name, it needs to disambiguate it from every other similar name and confirm the entity is real and active. A claimed Google Business Profile with recent reviews, an active YouTube channel, and consistent identity details across the web all act as corroborating evidence. The more consistent and current these signals are, the more confidently an engine can attribute facts to you and surface you in answers.

Reviews and brand activity are a trust signal — not a guarantee of ranking or citation. They work alongside your on-page content and schema, not instead of it.

How to fix it

  • Claim and verify your Google Business Profile. An unclaimed or unverified profile is a weak signal. Verifying it confirms you are the real operator of the business.
  • Build steady, recent reviews. Volume matters, but recency matters just as much — a trickle of reviews every month reads as a live business far better than a single old burst.
  • Keep an active brand channel. A YouTube channel (or similar) that has uploaded recently shows the brand is current, not dormant.
  • Make your identity consistent everywhere. Your business name, address, and phone number should match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, and social profiles. Add sameAs links in your schema that point to those profiles so engines can connect them as one entity.

How to check it worked

Search your exact business name and confirm your Google Business Profile appears with current reviews. Check that the name, address, and phone shown there match your website byte-for-byte. Confirm your schema includes sameAs links to each profile, and that those profiles in turn link back to your site. Re-run your AI Search Score scan and use the Brand presence panel to sanity-check your review count and rating against what you would want an engine to see.
