How to add alt text to your images

AI Search Score checks that your images have descriptive alt text — the text alternative that describes what an image shows.
Why this matters
Alt text serves several audiences at once: screen-reader users who can’t see the image, AI agents reading the accessibility tree, and image search. It’s also a genuine accessibility requirement. An image with no alt text is a blank to anyone or anything that can’t see it — and that’s a growing share of how the web is consumed.
How to fix it
In the WordPress block editor, adding alt text is built in:
- Select an image block.
- In the block settings sidebar, find the “Alt text” field.
- Describe what the image shows, concisely and accurately (“Navy sedan at Gold Coast Airport pickup zone”, not “image1” or a keyword list).
For decorative images that add no information, it’s acceptable to leave alt empty (alt="") so assistive tech skips them — but most content images should have real descriptions.
How to check it worked
Re-scan. “Images have alt text” should turn green, showing how many of your images are covered. If some are still missing, the editor’s List View helps you find every image block to fix.
