How to write a title tag that isn’t truncated
Last updated:
AI Search Score checks that your title tag is present and a sensible length — roughly 15 to 70 characters — so it doesn’t get cut off in results.
Why this matters
Your title is often the first thing a person (or an engine) sees. Too long and it’s truncated mid-phrase in search results; too short and it’s uninformative. A clear, complete title in the right range presents well everywhere it appears.
How to fix it
Titles in WordPress usually come from one of two places:
- Your SEO plugin (Slim SEO, Yoast, Rank Math) — set the SEO title there per page.
- The theme’s title-tag support — which uses the page title by default. To fix a too-long title, shorten it to its essential meaning. Front-load the important words. Aim for roughly 50–65 characters as a comfortable target; up to 70 is fine.
How to check it worked
Re-scan. “Title tag present and well-sized” should turn green. The detail shows the character count — aim to land it comfortably under 70.
