How to add Open Graph tags for clean sharing
Last updated:
AI Search Score checks for Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) — the metadata that controls how your page looks when shared on social platforms and in messages.
Why this matters
When someone shares your link — on Facebook, LinkedIn, in a message, anywhere — Open Graph tags decide whether it appears as a rich card with your chosen title, description and image, or as a bare, unappealing URL. Rich previews get far more engagement. The tags also give engines another clean, structured statement of what the page is about.
How to fix it
Open Graph tags are handled by your SEO plugin automatically — Slim SEO, Yoast, Rank Math and AIOSEO all generate them from your content and featured image. So the fix is usually:
- Ensure your SEO plugin is active and its social/Open Graph output isn’t disabled.
- Set a featured image on the page/post (that becomes
og:image). - Confirm the page has a good title and meta description (
og:titleandog:descriptiondraw from these or their own fields).
You can verify the result by viewing source and looking for <meta property="og:..."> tags, or by pasting your URL into a social-share preview/debugger.
How to check it worked
Re-scan. “Open Graph tags present” should turn green (it looks for at least og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url). Share the link or use a preview tool to confirm a rich card appears.
